Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Between Cleveland and Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park is 33,000 acres of valley along a 22-mile section of the Cuyahoga River. The area is characterized by a river flood plain, streams and creeks, forested valleys and upland plateaus. It offers picnicking, hiking, bicycle trails, horse trails, winter sports, ranger-guided programs and an excursion railroad. Special events are held throughout the year.
The reconstructed Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail runs the length of the park and parallels remnants of the Ohio & Erie Canal and the twisting Cuyahoga River. Many historical structures, canal locks and wayside exhibits highlighting the history of the Cuyahoga Valley can be seen along the trail. The national park has six visitor centers: The Canal Visitor Center, on Canal Road in the northern tip of the area; Boston Store, on Boston Mills Road in Boston Township; Happy Days Visitor Center, 300 W. Streetsboro Rd. (SR 303) in Boston Heights; Peninsula Depot Visitor Center, in Peninsula; Hunt Farm on Bolanz Road between Riverview and Akron-Peninsula roads; and The Frazee House at 7733 Canal Rd. in Valley View.
The Kendall Lake Winter Sports Center, on Truxell Road between Akron-Cleveland and Akron-Peninsula roads, offers ski and snowshoe instruction and cross-country ski, snowshoe and skate rentals on a first-come, first-served basis.
